Documenting Your Teaching Development through the CTL
As you engage in teaching development through the CTL, you may find it helpful to document your participation for a variety of professional purposes. The CTL offers two ways for graduate students to do this — one formal and summative, the other informal and flexible — depending on your needs and timing:
- The CTL GradTeach Transcript provides formal recognition of sustained engagement and is intended for inclusion in your teaching portfolio or academic job materials, typically requested as you near graduation.
- The CTL GradTeach Activity Report offers an informal, on-demand summary of your CTL participation, which can support applications for awards, fellowships, and other professional opportunities at any point during your graduate studies.

CTL GradTeach Transcript
(Formal recognition of sustained teaching development)
The CTL GradTeach Transcript provides official, formal recognition of your sustained participation in teaching development through the CTL during your graduate studies. This is a summative record, intended to be requested as you near graduation. It can be included in a teaching portfolio, used as evidence of teaching effectiveness, or submitted as part of academic job applications.
To receive the transcript, you must complete the requirements (see request form for details), including a self-reflection on your teaching development. Upon completion, you will receive:
An official transcript detailing your participation in all CTL events, programs, and services (e.g., workshops, individual consultations, mid-semester formative evaluations, GradTeach Certificate completion, etc.).
An official letter signed by CTL senior leadership, recognizing your reflection and commitment to teaching development,.

CTL GradTeach Activity Report
(Informal, on-demand summary of participation)
The CTL GradTeach Activity Report provides an informal, real-time summary of your engagement in CTL teaching development activities. There are no minimum requirements or reflections—you can request this report at any time during your graduate career, and it can be requested multiple times.
It is especially useful when applying for teaching awards, fellowships, professional development grants, or other opportunities where you need current documentation of your teaching-related activities.
When requested, you will receive:
An email summary (unofficial transcript) of your participation to date in CTL events, programs, and services.
