I view teaching pathology in a dynamic and interactive manner where the student is constantly challenge to translate the theoretical knowledge and clinical presentation (or gross findings) into a diagnosis, while keeping in mind the animal/herd, human, and public health implications. As a facilitator of the learning experience, I would like to make the student aware of the important role pathologists play in the veterinary profession, as well as motivate them to pursue a career in this field. Teaching allows me to nourish from the student fresh ideas and challenge myself to keep up to date with new advances in the field. During the pathology course the student will master from basic to complex terminology, concepts, and mechanisms essential for the understanding of disease processes. Throughout the interactive teaching experience students are presented with visual aids, gross specimens, and writing exercises that facilitates learning through different channels. I will improve my teaching by implementing the feedback from students and faculty mentors. Learning in my class can be enhanced by making me accessible to the students and through the implementation of new finding in the learning/teaching field (literature). |
