Nomination Materials
  1. Students must have taught for at least two semesters at UGA.
  2. Teaching Portfolios must be no longer than twelve pages.  The portfolios should be professionally presented. A letter of nomination from the department should be the initial item in the packet. Only the twelve-page portfolio will be considered in the review process so it must be created as a stand-alone document. Nomination letter does not count in the 12 page limit. TA Policy page.
  3. Each portfolio must include, as a minimum, each of the following items. Detailed description of each item found at: http://www.ctl.uga.edu/teaching_assistant/ta-portfolio.html

                                a.  A teaching philosophy statement
                                b.  Description of courses taught
                                c.  Sample teaching materials
                                d.  Sample of student work
                                e.  Innovative teaching projects and roles
                                f.   List of professional activities related to teaching at UGA
                                g.  List of special training or teaching related experiences
                                h.  Evaluation of teaching (from students, peers, faculty)

After endorsement by the department head, an original and six (6) copies of the nomination materials should be forwarded by January 17, 2008 to:  Dr. Paul Quick, The Center for Teaching and Learning, Instructional Plaza North 3016 (Campus).  Only nominations that have been duplicated and 3 hole punched can be considered.


NOMINATION CRITERIA FOR

THE GRADUATE SCHOOL EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARD
Due January 17, 2008

  1. Nominate only one student for the Excellence in Teaching Award.  The student must have previously received or be nominated at this time for the Outstanding TA Award.
  2. The student must have met all TA Policy requirements for training and language screening and demonstrated superior teaching skills while serving as an instructor of the classroom or laboratory.
  3. The student must have contributed to the scholarship of teaching at UGA beyond their own classroom responsibilities (examples: as a lead TA, mentor, preceptor, or by creating teaching materials for other TAs to use.)
  4. The student must have had significant teaching responsibilities for at least two terms since August 2006 (the last 18 months).  The current semester may be counted only if class evaluations have been completed.
  5. The nomination must be submitted by the announced deadline using the appropriate nomination form.  This nomination form requires endorsement by the department head.
  6. Previous recipients of the award are not eligible.
  7. Student must be currently registered full time.
