Over the past century, psychologists have shown only scattered interest in mnemonic devices, often referring to them as “tricks”, with no serious attention to understanding learning and memory. That situation is beginning to change. Roediger’s talk will provide a quick history of interest in mnemonics and then turn to modern research.
