How do I use the blue/green screen?

The color of clothing you are wearing can have an impact on the function of the blue/green screen. If you are wearing green, use the blue screen effect for better separation. If you are wearing blue, use the green screen effect for better separation. 

To use the blue/green screen, please toggle the switch on the black box (see image in question below) mounted on the right side of the podium beneath the camcorder.

The blue/green screen looks funny. What level should the light be set to when recording?

Use the large grey buttons to adjust the number.

How do I turn on the TVs simultaneously?

Stand in the middle of the room and point TV remote straight up towards ceiling and press the red power button.

What format will my video recording save as?

One Button Studio will compress and save your recordings in MPEG-4 which can later be edited in video editing software or uploaded to YouTube, Kaltura, Facebook, etc.

The wireless presentation clicker is not working.

Make sure the clicker is powered on and the USB receiver is firmly plugged in to the USB port on the right-side computer's keyboard. Also, make sure there is nothing blocking the communication between the clicker and the USB receiver.

If the clicker is still not working, please contact the CTL South front desk for assistance.

How do I properly frame what I am wanting to record?

Please adjust the zoom level using only the buttons of the camcorder remote control and position the presentation display. Please do not press any other buttons (besides those that control the zoom level) on the camcorder remote control.

USB

I plugged in the USB flash drive and received the error message "USB drive not formatted correctly".

Try using an appropriately formatted USB flash drive. USB flash drives must be formatted to FAT32 in order to be used with the One Button Studio. Other formats will not work.

How to format a USB flash drive

I plugged in the USB flash drive and received the error message "not enough space on the USB drive".

Make more space on the USB flash drive or use a larger USB flash drive. This error will appear when there is less than 500GB of free space available on the USB flash drive. Users of the One Button Studio should bring a USB flash drive that has at least 1GB of available free space (1GB of space will accommodate approximately 30 minutes of recording time). 

Nothing happens when the USB flash drive is plugged in.

Ensure the USB flash drive isn't defective by testing it on the presentation computer. If the USB flash drive fails to mount on the presentation computer, please contact the CTL South front desk for assistance.

It's not required, but bringing a secondary USB flash drive to use as a backup can be helpful.

There is no video on the USB flash drive.

The USB flash drive was removed too early. Wait for the computer prompt before you remove the USB drive.

How do I format my USB flash drive?

WARNING: Formatting the USB flash drive will erase all content on the device.

MAC OS:

  1. Connect the USB flash drive to a computer.
  2. Open Disk Utility.
  3. Click to select the USB storage device in the left panel.
  4. Click to change to the Erase tab.
  5. Provide a name for the USB device.
  6. In the Format drop-down selection box, select "MS-DOS (FAT)".
  7. In the Scheme drop-down selection box, select "GUID Partition Map".
  8. Click "Erase".
  9. Close the Disk Utility window.

WINDOWS:

  1. Connect the USB flash drive to a computer.
  2. Open Windows File Explorer.
  3. In the File Explorer window, right-click on the drive icon in which the USB device appears.
  4. From the menu, click "Format".
  5. In the "FORMAT device name (drive letter)" window, under "File System", click the drop-down arrow and select FAT32 and then click the start button.
  6. At the "WARNING..." message, click "OK" to continue.
  7. At the "Format Complete" message, click "OK".
  8. Click the "Close" button to close the "FORMAT device name (drive letter)" window.
  9. Close Windows File Explorer.

Button

Nothing happens when the button is pressed.

Make sure you are pressing the button firmly instead of lightly tapping it. If the blue button light is on, press the button and hold it down for a slightly longer amount of time.

Lights

The lights didn't turn on or off.

Please go to the CTL South front desk and request assistance.

Camera

The camera is not turned on.

The camera will not automatically turn on. To turn the camera on, the button is located on the top back right when facing the camera lens. If you need assistance turning the camera on, please go to the CTL South front desk.

The camera is out of focus.

The camera should be set to auto-focus, but if not, please go to the CTL South front desk and request assistance.

There is a slight delay on the video during recording.

While recording, the video will appear on the recording monitor. There may be a slight delay between what you are doing in front of the camera and what is displayed on the recording monitor. This delay will not appear on the final recording.

Microphone

I'm playing the video, but there is no audio.

Make sure the volume on the computer is turned up by pressing the F12 key to turn the volume all the way up. You should hear a chirp sound and see the volume adjuster indicator appear on the screen.

The sound is not in sync with the audio.

Playback directly from the presentation desktop on the right. Sound issues may result from the USB flash drives being too slow. Copy the recorded .mp4 file from the USB flash drive to the desktop and then open the file to play.

If the sound issue is not resolved, please go to the CTL South front desk and request assistance.

There is another sound quality issue with my recording.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to bring with me to the One Button Studio?

Are my recordings private?

Yes. Your recordings are saved only to your USB flash drive and are never saved locally on the computer hard drive. 

How long can I reserve the One Button Studio for?

A maximum of 90 minutes can be reserved each day.

Can I use the One Button Studio on a walk-in basis without making a reservation?

Reservations for the One Button Studio are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome to use the One Button Studio on a first-come, first-serve basis if no one else has previously scheduled the studio. To guarantee a time to use the One Button Studio, please make a reservation.

My reservation time has begun, but the studio is still occupied. What should I do?

Please go to the CTL South front desk and request assistance.

What Should I Wear?

Do not wear clothes with tight pattern’s, it will look as if they are moving on screen.  Solid earthy tones work well.  Bright fluorescent​ colors do not.
