The Lilly Teaching Fellows Program was originally established at the University of Georgia in 1984 as a result of a grant from Lilly Endowment of Indianapolis. In 1987, the program was continued with full support from the University of Georgia. From its inception, the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) has coordinated this program. The Lilly Fellows Program is extremely proud of the significant and positive impact made by individual Fellows on the scholarship of teaching at UGA. For example, three recipients of the Meigs Award (the highest award for teaching at UGA), 16 recipients of the Russell Award (the highest teaching award for faculty early in their careers at UGA), and one Research Professor are Lilly Fellows. SELECTION OF PARTICIPANTS Each spring, up to ten faculty members are selected to participate in this two-year program. Eligibility Applicants must be in their first, second, or third year (at the time of nomination) of a tenure-track position at the University of Georgia. The fellowship is designed for faculty members without significant teaching experience at the college or university level prior to joining the UGA faculty. However, this does not include experience as a graduate teaching assistant. Selection Up to ten faculty members are selected each spring semester to begin participation in the two-year program the following fall. A committee comprised of the program coordinators and Lilly Fellows from prior years interview the finalists. Demonstrated passion for and commitment to excellence in teaching is a key factor in selection. Notifications of the committee's decision are made by the end of spring semester. Selection Process Application forms and information about the application process are available on this website in January. The application deadline for the 2008-2010 Lily Fellows is March 3, 2008. Each application must be supported by a recommendation from the applicant's department head or dean. ACTIVITIES The following activities comprise the program for the first academic year of the program.
